Instagram glitch lets iOS users post unusually long photos that create ‘endless’ scrolling

Instagram glitch allow iOS users post unusually long photos that sprawl across feeds and require ‘endless’ scrolling to bypass

  • The glitch is allowing Instagram users on iOS to post unusually long images
  • Images that are usually cropped automatically are now sprawled across feeds
  • Influencers and meme accounts have coopted the glitch as a stunt

An Instagram bug affecting its iOS app might be giving some users vertigo.

The glitch, which has been documented and coopted by some of the platforms influencers, is allowing users to post unusually long photos.

Once posted, the towering images – instead of being cropped portrait-style to fit the app’s interface – are stretched across the feed, requiring users to scroll for an inordinate amount of time in order to see the next image in one’s feed.

The glitch is allowing users to post photos that are usually cropped automatically in the app. Instead, however, the long photos are sprawled across users’ feeds (stock)

The glitch only appears to be affecting users viewing the Instagram app on iOS and can be used by simply uploading an extra-long photo into the app and then posting it as you would a normal image.

As noted by The Verge, there is some variation for when and how the bug affects photos. While some photos appear black when posted, others come out pixelated.

The glitch also doesn’t appear to be affecting users on Android devices.

The Verge notes that the bug is also being used by some of Instagram’s influencers and meme accounts as a means of drawing attention to their profiles.

MailOnline has reached out to Instagram for comment and will update with any new information.
