A mother’s simple recipe for making pizza in a sandwich press has gone viral on social media.

In a post uploaded to an Australian Facebook group, the woman said she heated the press, slathered slices of Lebanese bread with tomato sauce, then piled ingredients such as ham, olives and cheese on top.

After folding the bread over like a wrap, she toasted it in the machine to create an indulgent pizza snack.

‘Years ago I bought all the stuff to make pizza, then remembered that my oven wasn’t working,’ she wrote.

‘I got out the trust sandwich press and made pizza in it instead.’

Her trick has sparked delighted responses online, with many branding it ‘genius’. 

‘I’ve made these, they’re great,’ one woman replied.

‘I do this once a week, my kids love it,’ said a second, while a third wrote: ‘Definitely trying this.’

Another said she has been using her sandwich press to make dishes like bacon and eggs for years to save time in the kitchen.

‘The fat doesn’t splatter anywhere and it’s about half the normal cooking time,’ she added.

Others said they use the machine for steak and homemade kebabs.
