Erik Lamela‘s stunning ‘rabona’ goal against Arsenal in the north London derby has been named Premier League goal of the season for the 2020-21 campaign.

Lamela left the small numbers of people permitted inside the Emirates with mouths agape after pulling off the audacious effort and finding the bottom corner.

The Argentine showcased his creativity by taking on the shot first time, after the ball was played across the area by full-back Sergio Reguilon and laid off by Lucas Moura.

Lamela’s effort was stuck with pinpoint precision and went through the legs of Arsenal’s record signing Thomas Partey in the process.

The goal remarkable stood as Lamela’s only strike of the Premier League season.

On the day Spurs had taken the lead with the unique strike, but would ultimately fall to a 2-1 defeat after the Gunners forced themselves back into the tie.

Lamela beat the following nominees to this season’s prize: James Maddison (vs Man City, September 27), Manuel Lanzini (vs Spurs October 18), Ola Aina (vs West Brom November 2), Sebastien Haller (vs Crystal Palace December 16), Mohamed Salah (vs West Ham January 31), Bruno Fernandes (vs Everton February 6), Jesse Lingard (vs Wolves April 5), Edinson Cavani (vs Fulham May 18).

It is the second season in a row in which a Spurs player has won the goal of the season award.

Last campaign Son Heung-min scooped the honour for his incredible solo run and finish against Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
