  • Rider was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition and later died


An elderly cyclist has died after being struck by a car on a scenic road near a New South Wales National Park. 

The cyclist, 72, was riding on Wilfred Barrett Road in Magenta near the Wyrrabalong National Park on the NSW Central Coast on Sunday.  

Police say the 66-year-old driver of a Hyundai collided with the cyclist about 1:30pm, with first responders arriving on the scene just before 2pm.

The elderly man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died. 

The female driver of the Hyundai was not injured and has undergone mandatory testing. 

Officers from the Tuggerah Lakes Police District have established a crime scene, with investigations into the collision to continue. 

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
