Chelsea are ‘confident’ they can agree a fee for £170m Erling Haaland, reveals his countryman Jan Aage Fjortoft… with the free-scoring Norway striker said to be the ‘missing piece’ for a new Premier League title challenge

  • Haaland scored a shocking 41 goals in 41 appearances for Dortmund this season
  • The 20-year-old Norwegian striker is one of the hottest properties in Europe
  • Blues reportedly think they can get a deal over the line for £170m-rated Haaland

Jan Aage Fjortoft has revealed Chelsea are ‘confident’ of signing fellow Norwegian Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Haaland is one of the hottest properties in Europe after scoring an astonishing 41 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for the German side this season, with Chelsea one of several top sides understood to be interested in his signature.

And former Swindon and Middlesbrough striker Fjortoft tweeted stating the Blues believe they can get a deal for the 20-year-old striking sensation over the line to help fire them to the Premier League title next season.

His post read: ‘Chelsea working intense (sic) to get Erling Haaland. He is seen as the ‘missing’ player to make them challenge for the PL title next season.

‘Fee very high, but confidence that this can be solved. The main obstacle could be the wage-structure at Chelsea.’

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich splashed out on several high-profile attackers last summer, with Kai Havertz and Timo Werner signed for £62m and £47million respectively.

The club did manage to win the Champions League under manager Thomas Tuchel, but built their success on defensive solidity rather than free-flowing attacking football and clinical finishing.

Werner (six) and Havertz (four) scored just 10 Premier League goals between them, while fellow strikers Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud have been linked with moves away, with Tuchel reportedly keen to strengthen his forward line and Abrahamovich ready to back him in the transfer market after European success.

The club are understood to believe they can pay the estimated £170m fee to sign him, but are concerned with how his possible £500,000-a-week wages could damage the balance of the club’s strict wage structure.
