Jesse Lingard has put his England disappointment behind him to back Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of this summer’s European Championship.
The Manchester United star had put himself in contention to snatch a spot in Southgate’s party following a sensational six-month loan spell at West Ham, scoring nine goals in 16 games for David Moyes‘ side.
Lingard was named in Southgate’s 33-man provisional squad last month but failed to make the final cut, with the Three Lions boss opting for Ben White over the attacking midfielder after the withdrawal of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 28-year-old featured in the warm up games against Austria and Romania as Southgate hailed the playmaker’s mentality, and Lingard has taken to Instagram to wish the side well ahead of their opener against Croatia on Sunday.
‘When it comes to being involved with the boys and representing my country I’ll never stop smiling,’ he posted alongside an image of himself playing for his country.
‘I’ll be supporting the team all summer! Good luck to the lads! Bring it home’.
Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka all reacted with applause emojis underneath Lingard’s post, while Declan Rice wrote: ‘What a guy’.
However, he has put his disappointment to one side to wish the national side good luck

Southgate admitted it was particularly difficult to leave Lingard and Southampton star James Ward-Prowse out, before hailing the pair’s commitment to the group.
‘There were some who are in for the friendlies and have added a lot to the group but we knew Greenwood wasn’t a contender with the injury but it was very difficult to speak with Lingard and James Ward-Prowse, who was our captain with the Under-21s,’ Southgate said last week.
‘Their commitment has been fantastic and although they were disappointed, they knew where they stood and the group is relaxed.’
England get their tournament underway on June 13 when they play Croatia at Wembley, with further games to follow against Scotland and Czech Republic.
