Northampton lock David Ribbans looks to have missed his chance to win a first England cap this summer after he was banned for three weeks for a high tackle on Exeter’s Luke Cowan-Dickie.
The second-row, 25, was likely to be named by Eddie Jones in the squad for Tests against USA and Canada this Thursday.
But on Sunday he was red carded for a dangerous tackle in the first half of Saints’ Chiefs defeat.

And on Tuesday he received a three-week ban – which would preclude him from playing for his country in July if selected.
Initially Ribbans will miss the final Northampton game of the season against Bath, and two pre-season matches against Bedford and the Ospreys. But as suspensions cover ‘meaningful matches’ England’s Tests against their North American summer opponents would count instead if Ribbans were to be picked on Thursday.
So now it is likely he will be left out, and free to play again on September 14 having served his ban.
