Manchester United have reopened talks with Paul Pogba about extending his contract at Old Trafford beyond next summer, according to reports.

The French midfielder has been linked with a United exit for several years but has never engineered a move away from the club – and is now a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side.

Pogba has just over one year left on his United deal and will be able to negotiate a free transfer with other clubs from January should his contract situation remain the same.

And according to Sky Sports, the Red Devils have opened up negotiations with Pogba’s representatives over an extension.

United triggered an automatic one-year extension clause to the original five-year contract he signed when the rejoined the club in the summer of 2016 for a then-world record fee.

The decision to extend the Frenchman’s contract by a year from the United hierarchy came just a few weeks after his agent, Mino Raiola, claimed Pogba wanted to part ways with the club.

The super-agent claimed in the middle of December: ‘He does not want to play for Man United any more. His agent, who is his best friend, told us categorically he does not want to be here any more.

‘The reason Paul Pogba gets more criticism is quite simply because he is the biggest signing, a world champ and there’s a large expectation around him. I can accept a player not playing well but his agent and best friend has tried to get him out of this football club for the last 15 months.’

But the 28-year-old came out with an angry response to his agent’s comments, claiming Italian representative Raiola did not ‘know what’s going on inside’.

He wrote on Instagram: ‘I’ve always fought and will always fight for Manchester United, my team-mates and the fans,’ wrote Pogba. ‘Bla bla is not important. The future is far, today is what matters.

‘I am 1,000 per cent involved! Always strong together.. all has been clear between the club and myself and that will never change. When you don’t know what’s going on inside don’t talk #SpeakTheTruthOrRemainSilent #united #talktothehand.’

Pogba suffered a long-term hamstring problem in the winter which kept him out until the middle of March, but the midfielder has since played a key role in Solskjaer’s midfield.

He featured in six out of United’s final nine league matches of the season and started every game on their way to the Europa League final, where they lost on penalties to Villarreal.

The midfielder is currently preparing for the European Championships with France, with the summer tournament beginning on Friday night.
