Eddie Hearn claims Conor Benn is ‘a future GLOBAL star’ and insists he’ll fight for title in 2022

Eddie Hearn claims Conor Benn is ‘a future GLOBAL star’ and insists son of British icon Nigel will benefit from new DAZN deal by fighting for the world title BEFORE 2023

  • Conor Benn, 24-years-old, is one of Britain’s most improved fighters right now
  • The welterweight has signed a five-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom
  • Hearn’s company have now moved its stable of fighters over to steamers DAZN
  • The promoter is convinced he can get Benn a world title fight by late 2022

Eddie Hearn hopes to make Conor Benn his next global superstar by taking him on a world tour en route to welterweight supremacy.

The promoter recently moved his stable of fighters from Sky Sports to streaming service DAZN, which broadcasts in more than 200 territories worldwide.

That new deal, launched on Monday in Hearn’s back garden, could allow more British fighters to cut their teeth abroad.

Benn will headline the first fight night of this new UK partnership next month – against Adrian Granados back at Hearn’s Essex base.

The 24-year-old is one of this country’s most improved fighters and his new five-bout deal with Matchroom could take him towards the world title via Spain, Mexico and even Australia.

‘He is someone who will benefit from the international schedule,’ Hearn said of Benn, the son of British legend Nigel Benn, who grew up between Mallorca and Down Under.

‘He is perfect for the US shows, he is Spanish-speaking so I would love to take him to Mexico and link him up with Canelo and Eddie Reynoso on one of their shows.

‘He can box in Spain, in Australia where his old man is based so I really see him as a future global star. He is right up the top there in terms of ratings.’

Despite the strides Benn has made, Hearn remains cautious not to rush the welterweight.

‘We have mapped out a plan to take him to the world title over five fights so by the end of next year he will fight for the world title,’ Hearn said.

‘There are a lot of people talking about Shawn Porter and I think Granados is perfect. It is a bit tougher than (previous opponent) Samuel Vargas, I think he will go deeper into the fight and ask him a few questions.

‘He still needs those type of fights and quite frankly when he is hitting the numbers he is hitting, we don’t want to see him in a 50-50 fight just yet.

‘We want to see him prepared for that.’
