The Dutchman confirmed earlier this week that a deal was close to being completed and called for patience, ahead of the deal being announced.

‘Everyone knows that I have been negotiating with Barcelona for a long time and that my dream is to play for Ronald Koeman,’ Depay said. ‘Just wait, and then the news will come.’

Depay is set to become the latest free transfer to arrive at the Nou Camp this summer after former Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia joined the club.

However, Barca boss Ronald Koeman did miss out on signing fellow Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum after he was released by Liverpool, the 30-year-old opted to join Paris Saint-Germain on a three year deal instead.

Barca have been forced into targeting players available on free transfers due to the financial impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on the club.

Depay joined Manchester United for £31million from PSV Eindhoven in 2015, but struggled during his time at Old Trafford scoring just two goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

He moved to Lyon in January 2017 and gradually rebuilt his career in France.

The 27-year-old scored an impressive 20 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances as Lyon finished fourth last season.

Depay should be back in action for Holland when they host North Macedonia at the Amsterdam Arena in their final group game on Monday.
