Home Secretary Priti Patel has told Border Force officers to stop attending ‘unconscious bias’ workshops.
The training is supposed to challenge prejudiced ways of thinking, such as who gets a job promotion or how officers interact with the public.
But it has been hit by accusations of political correctness and of being part of a broader ‘culture war’.

A source said that Priti ‘thinks the whole thing is complete nonsense and has put a stop to it’.
However, the College of Policing, the police’s professional body which sets training guidelines, said while there was currently ‘no standalone unconscious bias training’, it would continue to form part of the curriculum for forces.

That is despite the Government saying it was phasing out unconscious bias training from departments because it had either no impact or the opposite effect on decisions which could be affected by race, sexuality or gender.
Ministers said a review of 492 studies of unconscious bias training found it was ‘not associated with changes in behaviour’.
The College of Policing said: ‘Our guidance is that it is important police officers are aware that unconscious and other bias exists and as such, the subject will continue to form part of the national curriculum.’
