Toyota, Porsche, Holden, Mercedes and BMW drivers named in Carsales survey on vehicle stereotypes

Toyota drivers ‘honest’ and Porsche owners ‘sexy: What your car says about YOUR personality is revealed – and you will NEVER guess who swears the most

  • More than 1000 motorists were polled in the Carsales ‘Car Truths’ survey  
  • Holden drivers voted the most likely to ‘swear colourfully’ by near two thirds
  • About 5% of respondents admitted to putting petrol into their diesel cars 
  • Porsche drivers nominated as the most sexy and hopeless romantics


Australian’s have voted Holden drivers the most likely to swear and scream in traffic and Porsche drivers the most likely to turn heads.

More than 1000 motorists across the country were polled in the Carsales ‘Car Truths’ survey in May .

Questions included who was most prone to having a romantic experience inside their vehicle and who was most likely to give their car a name.

Toyota drivers (pictured) were considered the most honest, with 22% of people voting them most likely to leave a note after a prang

Some stereotypes emerged with 33% thinking van drivers collect their empty coffee cups in the centre console, and 25% labelling SUV drivers as ‘having all the gear, but no idea’.

Holden drivers were voted the most likely to ‘swear colourfully’ by near two thirds of respondents.

Porsche drivers were nominated as the most sexy, hopeless romantics, and most likely to name their car.

Toyota drivers were considered the most trustworthy and likely to leave a note after an incident, racking up 22% of votes. 

Mercedes-Benz owners were chosen as the ones most likely to have an ‘above average’ intelligence. 

BMW, Mercedes and Porsche drivers were also voted most likely to wear exercise clothes with no intention of exercising while 24% of Aussies said adrenaline junkies drive Land Rovers.

About 5% admitted to putting petrol into their diesel car while 21% said they were guilty of ignoring the check engine light.

Aussies also believe that people who obsessively wash their car are more likely to own a classic car.
