A mum-of-two has revealed the secret to removing stubborn sticky residue from surfaces in just seconds is a can of WD-40. 

Carolina Mccauley, from Perth, Western Australia, shared a now-viral TikTok video  showing the pesky residue on a glass jar after she peeled an old sticker label off.

To remove the residue, she simply sprayed a generous amount of the multi-purpose WD-40 on the surface before she using a damp microfibre cloth to wipe the residue off with ease.

A can of WD-40 costs from as little as $6.65 per can.

‘Life hack to remove stick residue. The secret to this is WD-40. Spray liberally. Use a damp cloth. This will break down the adhesive,’ she explained in the video.

Once the residue was removed, she gave the jar a ‘good wash’ and reused it as a vase to display flowers in her home.

Her video has since been viewed more than 60,000 times, with many confirming the product works well on removing sticky residue every time. 

‘This has been my trick for 20 years, now they all know,’ she said, while another said: ‘WD-40 works well with anything sticky.’

Meanwhile, others shared their own cleaning methods on removing stick residue.

‘Easier hack: Wrap [object] in a hot wet paper towel, leave it wrapped for 20 minutes,’ one wrote. After 20 minutes, the residue should slide off.

Another said: ‘I’ll rub coconut oil on it and let it sit – mostly since it’s usually a solid and easier to stick on things. Then wash it off.’ 

‘Soak in hot water with dish soap, then scrub with steel wool,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘I just use nail polish remover.’
