Barcelona great Xavi has ruled out any sort of return to the Catalan club in the near future, saying he has a great relationship with president Joan Laporta but ‘nothing else’.
The former Spanish midfielder is currently in charge of Qatari side Al-Sadd and recently signed a new two-year contract to stay put.
Xavi has been constantly linked with the Barcelona job and was reportedly top of Laporta’s list to replace Ronald Koeman if the Dutchman was shown the door after an underwhelming season for the Spanish giants.

However, while Laporta has decided to stick with Koeman for the foreseeable, the question over a return for Xavi still lingers.
‘With Laporta I have friendship but nothing else from there,’ Xavi told Vamos via AS. ‘I wish them the best, to Laporta as president, to Koeman as coach and to the players, who I am friends with many. I always want Barcelona I win’.
But it appears Barcelona are not the only club that were intent on hiring the 41-year-old with Dortmund making Xavi a ‘very interesting offer’ to coach the Bundesliga giants for three years, Spanish newspaper AS reported in May.

Dortmund were looking for a new permanent boss following the sacking of Lucien Favre in December, with interim boss Edin Terzic in charge.
The Bundesliga side have since appointed Borussia Monchengladbach coach Marco Rose, who took over following the end of the season.
And the Dortmund vacancy was not the only job offered to Xavi before he penned fresh terms with Al-Sadd.
The Brazilian Football Federation also reportedly made contact with him to discuss the possibility of being Tite’s assistant at next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

The plan was for Xavi to then become Brazil’s manager once Tite stepped down. But it’s claimed he swiftly rejected both offers because he’s happy in Qatar and would only be interested in the Barcelona job when the time was right.
Xavi has long been touted as the future coach at the Nou Camp after a successful start to life in management following his appointment as the Qatari outfit’s manager in 2019.
And while a return in the future looks to certainly be on the cards, it seems Barcelona fans will have to wait a little while longer before that can happen.
