  • The club’s latest offer has been described as not reflective of his potential
  • Due to his age the south London club must agree a fee with one of his suitors

England prospect Abdul Abdulmalik is training with Portsmouth but has been left in limbo by Millwall’s stance over his future.

Teenage England under-17 forward Abdulmalik’s contract expired this week but he remains unable to join a new club with Millwall digging their heels in and so far refusing to negotiate with interested parties.

They have rejected a number of approaches from Swansea for Abdulmalik, who has also been watched by Arsenal and Rangers.

Swansea’s highest offer was a structured package worth around £200,000 with further add-ons.

Millwall have attempted to persuade Abdulmalik to stay by offering him a new deal, but their proposal is considered derisory and not reflective of club claims that the 18 year-old has a big future at The Den.

While he awaits a breakthrough – either via an accepted bid or improved terms from Millwall – out of contract Abdulmalik is now training with League One Portsmouth who consider him first-team ready if they could get him to Fratton Park.

Due to his age, though, he cannot leave unless Millwall agree a fee with one of his suitors, an outcome that would prevent the situation and compensation being decided via a tribunal.
