Bukayo Saka is set to be fit for England’s Euro 2020 semi-final against Denmark on Wednesday.

The Arsenal teenager was forced to miss Saturday’s euphoric win over Ukraine in Rome due to an ankle knock he sustained in training last week.

That was a major blow for head coach Gareth Southgate, who had started Saka in the previous two matches.

But the 19-year-old looks likely to be available for the Denmark game. ‘He should be fine,’ said Southgate. ‘He did declare himself available for the (Ukraine) game but we had not really had the chance to see him on the pitch and working at the level we felt would vindicate that decision.

‘He will go back into full training with the group on Tuesday and, yes, he should be fine.’

Saka was in high spirits at St George’s Park in Sunday as he and team-mates splashed around in the team swimming pool, recovering from their trip to Italy.

It leaves Southgate facing a selection poser.

Jadon Sancho replaced Saka for the win over Ukraine and performed well on his first start of the tournament.

But the winger, who will complete a £73million move to Manchester United after the Euros, could lose his place.

Saka appears to be the favourite if a replacement is needed. Denmark left wing back Joakim Maehle has been a marauding force for his country at this tournament, scoring twice and providing an assist. Saka would offer greater cover for Kyle Walker than the other options.

Southgate is unlikely to make many other changes to the team who started against Ukraine, though he will factor in how his players recover from Saturday’s clash in sweltering Rome.
