Letterboxes and rubbish bins have been destroyed in a series of mysterious explosions that rocked three Melbourne suburbs overnight.
The first blast startled residents of James Street in Northcote, in the city’s north, on Sunday when a rubbish bin blew up at about 8.25pm.
A second bin exploded half an hour later at 9pm on Maltravers Road in Ivanhoe, just one suburb east of the first incident.
Ten minutes later, a washing machine stationed on the back of a ute blew up on Kilby Road in Kew East, south of the initial blasts.
Police attended both scenes and found a number of letterboxes and rubbish bins that had been destroyed.
No one was injured in any of the incidents and the investigation is ongoing.
