Gobsmacked Aussie nurse who won $107MILLION Powerball reveals what REALLY happens when you hit the jackpot – and the first thing she did as a newly-minted multi-millionaire

  • Sydney nurse won a whopping $107 million from Powerball in January 2019
  • Remarkably, she is still working as she is ‘set in a certain way’ in her life routine
  • Windfall remains the largest prize won by individual lottery winner in Australia

A Powerball winner has revealed the first thing she did after she snared a whopping $107million – the school run.

The Sydney nurse even decided to keep her job after claiming the massive financial windfall in January of 2019.

It remains the single-largest prize won by an individual lottery winner in Australia.

When she received the life changing call, the woman, who has opted to stay anonymous, thought she had won a very handy $107,000 as opposed to a life-changing $107million.

‘I got up the next morning and took the kids to school and had jobs to do and commitments I had to follow through with,’ she said of the routine day that followed after her amazing news.

‘People needed me to be the person I always was.

‘When you’ve had certain habits your whole life, you don’t just change them overnight, or at least I chose not to.’

Recalling the moment she found out she had won the astonishing amount of money, the nurse said it didn’t properly sink in she had won.

‘To begin with, I was caught up with the rest of Australia,’ she said.

‘I was just as excited for myself as everyone else was for the winner.

‘I still remember watching the story unfold on national television. It was exciting to read about it and see that so many people were happy for me.

‘I appreciated the well wishes and excitement that was coming from the entire country.’

Like so many people across the country, the hardworking and humble nurse said she had always dreamt of one day winning the lottery.

‘Just like everyone else, I bought my entry before the game, went back to doing what I was doing and totally forgot about it,’ she said.

‘It wasn’t on my radar at all because it just doesn’t happen – people like me don’t win, and I still don’t think it’s truly sunk in yet.’

The mother and wife went onto reveal she has since used the money to buy a house, as well as splurge on a few ‘fancy wines’ and travel with the family.

Last year, 14 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $470million in prize money.
