A young woman has sparked heated debate by revealing her intention to marry a man twice her age after just three months of dating.

Sharing her plans on Facebook, the bride-to-be, 23, said she hoped to tie the knot with her 46-year-old boyfriend on his birthday in a month’s time.

The couple – who have been in a relationship for less than half a year – have an age gap of 23 years between them.

The bride’s plans were re-posted in a wedding shaming group, where members were quick to slam the idea as outlandish.

‘So I have been dating my new man for three months now and we are planning to get married next month on his birthday,’ the post begins.

The bride then asked for advice on planning the wedding and choosing a theme.

‘I’m thinking about going for a birthday party wedding. So this is my first marriage and this is his second marriage, I’m 23 and he is 46 by the way,’ she wrote.

The woman who spotted the original post shared a screenshot with the caption: ‘It’s a joke right?

‘It has to be a joke… like why word it that way if it’s not a joke? A birthday-wedding on one month’s notice for a three month long, 23-year gap relationship.’

Exasperated responses instantly flooded in.

‘That was a lot in one paragraph,’ one woman wrote.

Another added: ‘Here’s an idea: don’t do it.’

A third said the first thing the bride put on her to-do list for the wedding is ‘find a divorce lawyer’.

Another wondered if the ‘groom’ is even aware of his impending nuptials.

‘I wonder if said dude knows. New man and wedding should not be in the same sentence,’ she wrote.

But some looked on the bright side of the situation.

‘I would rather this than ‘I fell pregnant three months in’. A marriage is much easier to get out of then patenting the next 18 years with someone,’

Others pointed out that whirlwind romances occasionally work out.

‘To be fair my best friend was whisked away to Paris and got proposed to after four months of dating, never even lived with him,’ one woman said.

‘They got married and they’ve been together for years now. Sometimes it could work I guess. Not for me but to each their own.’
