Arsenal succeeded with their third bid after offers worth £40m and £47m with various add-ons were rejected.

White was a last-minute call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020 but did not feature at the major tournament for the Three Lions.

Arsenal are in Scotland at a training camp and will travel back to London after the game with Rangers on Saturday before flying to America early next week to take part in the Florida Cup.

Though White will not be involved, Arsenal hope to have Albert Sambi Lokonga in their ranks once they confirm his arrival from Anderlecht.

Meanwhile, Roma remain keen to sign Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka over the coming days.

Arsenal have only made one summer signing so far, left-back Nuno Tavares, who scored on his first ever start for the club in their second pre-season friendly away at Rangers on Saturday.

The left-back moved from Portuguese side Benfica for around £9.8million in the first week of July.
