Jake Paul insists he will ‘expose’ UFC striking ability in his upcoming boxing match with MMA star Tyron Woodley – as YouTuber vows to ‘finish him’

  • Paul takes on MMA’s Woodley in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio on August 29
  • Woodley has lost his last four UFC fights, including one against Kamaru Usman
  • However, he represents the toughest test so far of Paul’s fledgling boxing career
  • But YouTuber and Internet personality Paul, 24, is very confident of his chances

Jake Paul has insisted he will ‘expose’ the UFC striking with victory over Tyron Woodley in their fight on August 29.

The YouTuber and Internet personality will continue his move into combat sports with his cruiserweight bout against MMA fighter Woodley at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Paul’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

Despite only having three fights in his fledgling boxing career, Paul, 24, is nonetheless confident he will win and declared in a pre-fight press conference that he will show up the UFC’s generally weaker striking capabilities.

He said: ‘I think I’m exposing the UFC a bit with their striking capabilities. He’s fought the ‘best in the world’ in the UFC, but that’s not boxing. People think they’re very similar sports, which they kind of are. But it’s really relating swimming to basketball.

‘It’s two very different things. Boxers are more efficient, more precise, more conservative with their energy, scoring points. It’s just a completely different ballgame, and a lot of people don’t really understand that.

‘They just take it at face value, which is, ‘This is a fight.’ It’s not that. He’s coming into my territory, and as crazy as it sounds, I’m a much better boxer than him – even though he’s been doing it for five times as long.’

‘Yes, he’s fought Kamaru Usman. Yes, he’s fought Gilbert Burns. But that’s not Jake Paul. I will finish him, unlike those guys, and then people are going to come back and watch this interview and be like, ‘Holy s***, this kid is crazy. He predicted the future, and what the f*** is going on? What the f*** is in the milk in Ohio?’

Paul has fought three times, beating fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib, basketball player Nate Robinson and then retired UFC fighter and wrestler Ben Askren – a good friend of Woodley – all via KO or TKO, giving him an unblemished but light 3-0 record.

Woodley, 39, is 15 years Paul’s senior and has lost his last four UFC fights, and has a height and reach disadvantage, but crucially has lots of experience against a high calibre of fighter and therefore represents the toughest test so far of Paul’s career.
