AFL bad boy Dane Swan is SACKED from KIIS FM Melbourne

AFL bad boy Dane Swan is SACKED from KIIS FM Melbourne for ‘turning up drunk’ and tweeting the C-word… less than a year after getting a regular gig on the Jase & PJ breakfast show

Retired AFL star Dane Swan has been sacked from KIIS FM Melbourne‘s breakfast show.

The former Collingwood star, 36, had joined the program – then known as Jase & PJ – in January as a regular commentator one day a week.

But he revealed on the Hump Day with Swanny & Friends podcast he’d recently been informed by the station his services were no longer required.

While he wasn’t told why he’d been let go, Swan suspected it was because he had once ‘turned up drunk’ for a live broadcast.

He also said a foul-mouthed tweet may have triggered the decision to fire him.

‘They rang me, I think it was after my tweet when I used the word c**t. I think it was maybe turning up drunk or not turning up at all or turning up on a Monday morning with my sunny disposition at like 6:30am,’ he said of his dismissal.

‘To be fair, I enjoyed the five minutes I was on air with them. They were all very nice people, but at the end of this footy season I was going to tell my manager I can’t do Monday mornings.’

Swan also said ‘the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze’ because waking up early for breakfast radio ‘ruins your weekend’.

KIIS FM Melbourne recently announced the Jase & PJ program was heading in a new direction with new co-host Lauren Phillips stepping in.

Lauren has replaced Polly ‘PJ’ Harding, who quit the network to spend more time with her family and fiancé in New Zealand.

She is co-presenting with Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins, and the new show has been renamed Jase & Lauren in the Morning.

‘Lauren was part of our KIIS Summer Breakfast Show and was an immediate hit with listeners for her likeable nature and infectious laughter,’ ARN’s Chief Content Officer Duncan Campbell said.

‘We are so pleased she will now be joining Jase, she was the perfect choice to take over from Polly “PJ” Harding after she announced she was leaving KIIS to return home to New Zealand.’

‘There will also be further announcements coming very soon on who else will be joining Jase & Lauren in the Morning.’

Jase & Lauren in the Morning launches on Monday, August 9
