An artistic shopper has shared her simple trick for turning a basic Kmart chair into a funky bedside table.

In a recent TikTok video, Sydney woman Hannah Leavey showed viewers how she removed the cushioned seat from a $29 ottoman with fabric scissors and a box cutter, then painted it pastel green with paint from Bunnings.

Her hack transformed the budget-friendly stool into a quirky table for a total cost of just $39 – $29 for the ottoman and $10 for the paint.

Ms Leavey credited a Melbourne marketing manager and DIY enthusiast named Simonette as her inspiration for upcycling the seat.

Footage of her handiwork, which has been viewed 53,900 times since it was uploaded online on June 26, quickly sparked delighted responses from amateur home decorators.

‘Cute! Turned out so pretty,’ one woman replied.

‘Looks amazing, great job. That mint green is lush,’ said a second, while a third added: ‘I need to do this.’

Others said they had taken different coloured paint to ottomans with similar results.

‘So good, I did mine with glossy black paint! Such a great idea,’ one woman wrote.

And it’s not the only DIY Ms Leavey has been busy with during the New South Wales lockdown.

Ms Leavey said she bought the $25 textured lamp from Kmart before coating it in a warm shade of lilac Taubmans paint.

Fans raved about the transformation, with one woman writing: ‘What a vibe.’

Another added: ‘You made it so much better, OMG!’
