‘I’m more than my accomplishments and gymnastics’: Simone Biles thankful for messages of support after Team USA gymnast pulls out of individual final to focus on her mental health

Simone Biles has thanked fans and fellow athletes for their support after she withdrew from her individual all-round final to focus on her mental health.

The 24-year-old admitted on Tuesday she has been struggling with her mental health and dealing with the pressure at the Tokyo Olympics.

Biles is the most successful US gymnast of all time with five Olympic golds and was favourite to retain her title in the event, but decided to pull out just a day after she dramatically withdrew from the team event final.

Coco Gauff and Michael Phelps were among those to send messages of support but now Biles herself has tweeted, insisting the positive reaction she has received has made her aware that there is more to her than her achievements in sport.

‘The outpouring love & support I’ve received has made me realize I’m more than my accomplishments and gymnastics which I never truly believed before,’ she tweeted on Thursday.
