Ireland win their FIRST-EVER Olympic rowing gold as Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy edge out Germany at Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo to win lightweight double sculls race

Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan earned Ireland’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics as they won the men’s lightweight double sculls.

The duo overhauled Germany to win by under a second at the Sea Forest Waterway, with Italy taking a distant third.

It was Ireland’s second medal of the Games after the women’s four earned bronze on Wednesday.
