Coronation Street‘s Jennie McAlpine has gone down three dress sizes since she first  stepped on the cobbles to play Fizz Stape 20 years ago. 

And the star has now stated that her weight loss is all down to ‘common sense. 

Speaking to OK!, the soap icon, 37, explained: ‘Ice cream is bad, salad is good – it’s not rocket science.’

Jennie said of her health overhaul: ‘I don’t go in for all the diet plans and worrying yourself silly over how much you weigh. 

‘If you eat more of the good stuff and take more exercise then you’ll lose weight.’

The soap star also added that she tries not to stress to much about what she eats and is happy with how her body has transformed so far. 

Jennie said she would never beat herself up for eating the wrong things and although there is pressure in showbiz to be slim she has never personally felt it.

However, Jennie admitted she has faced some difficult trolling where online bullies called her ‘fat’ and questioned why she returned to Coronation Street after her maternity leave. 

The actress resumed her role as Fiz Brown in 2019 after giving birth in October 2018. 

The mother-of-two took a break from the show to have her second child Hilda with her husband Chris Farr.

Excited Jennie shared she and Chris were ‘very happy’ with their newest addition to the family in a sweet tweet announcing she had given birth at the time. 

She wrote: ‘Our newest addition arrived yesterday. Mummy and Daddy very happy. Big brother very proud of his little sister Hilda. We’re all in love.’

The happy couple, who were married in 2017, added to their brood as they already raise their son Albert.

A long-term cast member, Jennie has said in the past that she has no intentions of leaving Corrie behind yet. 

However, she said she would never take for granted that the writers may have other ideas one day. 

Jennie gushed of her role in the soap: ‘I do love it. The thing is, you never, never know and I can’t ever take it for granted because [the writers] might have other ideas one day.
