Man City goalkeeper Ederson is ‘in line for a new three-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2028’… with several other first-team stars, including John Stones and Phil Foden, in talks about extending their stays

  • Senior Man City chiefs are quickly going about their business behind the scenes
  • Ederson is set to be rewarded with a new three-year deal at the Etihad Stadium
  • The Brazilian goalkeeper is already on a deal with the champions until 2025
  • A number of other first-team stars could be next in line for contract extensions

Manchester City are set to reward No 1 goalkeeper Ederson with a new three-year contract, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has been a revelation for City since signing from Benfica back in 2017, becoming a key component for Pep Guardiola and his desire for his team to play out from the back.

After an impressive first season at the Etihad Stadium, Ederson was already handed a new seven-year contract until 2025 in May 2018, but now City want to extend his stay even further – according to The Athletic.

It’s claimed fresh talks are planned between the Premier League champions and the Brazilian, with it being expected that he will agree terms to keep him at the club until 2028.

Furthermore, while City are eyeing mega-money moves for England stars Harry Kane and Jack Grealish from Tottenham and Aston Villa respectively, the Manchester outfit want to tie down several first-team stars to new deals too.

England duo Phil Foden and John Stones, who alongside Kane and Grealish led the Three Lions to the final of Euro 2020 earlier this summer, are reportedly in talks over extending their stays.

Stones’ current deal expires next summer while Foden’s runs until 2024 – with City keen to secure their long-term futures after the pair played an integral role as the club lifted their third Premier League title in four seasons last term.

Ruben Dias, following an outstanding debut season alongside Stones, is also in line to be rewarded with a pay rise already.

Pep Guardiola’s side will also offer Raheem Sterling, England’s star player at the Euros, a new contract with just two years left to run on his current deal.

Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus – who along with Sterling have been named as potential sweeteners in a deal with Tottenham for Kane – are down to the last two years of their agreements too.

There are reports Mahrez will be handed a new contract but Jesus’ future is up in the air currently.

City are moving quickly to tie down first-team stars to new deals in their bid to avoid a repeat of the Leroy Sane saga from last summer.

Sane was entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium last summer, and with the German winger wanting to leave for Bayern Munich, the club had to accept a reduced fee of £55m.
