Dina Asher-Smith faces anxious wait to see if she has made the 100m final after finishing third in her semi-final and now hopes to advance as one of the fastest losers

Dina Asher-Smith faces an anxious wait to see if she has made the 100m final after finishing third in her semi-final.

Elaine Thompson-Herah took victory ahead of Switzerland’s Ajla del Ponte who both took the automatic qualification spots ahead of the 25-year-old British sprinter.

Third place is not enough to guarantee a place in the final and now has to wait to see if she can make the final later this afternoon depending on the results of the other two semi-finals.

Thompson-Herah cruised to the victory and was able to take her foot of the gas with a time of 10.76.

Asher-Smith didn’t make the best of starts but was neck and neck with Del Ponte though the Swiss sprinter was just able to pull away at the end.

There are two fastest losers places, with two further semi-finals for Asher Smith to wait and see if she has made the final.
