Thrilled shopper reveals how she got a $1 pack of FOUR chicken kievs from Woolworths

  • A Woolworths shopper scored an $8 packet of chicken kievs for only $1.26
  • Mum-of-two Louise noticed poultry had been labelled incorrectly
  • The ‘Quick Sale’ sticker shows the bargain was meant for fresh deli leg ham

A Woolworths customer has revealed the reason why an $8 packet of boneless chicken kievs was marked down to only $1.26.

Mum-of-two Louise noticed the unbelievable discount on store shelves and upon a closer inspection saw the packet had been labelled incorrectly.

The ‘Quick Sale’ sticker shows the bargain was meant for fresh unsmoked deli leg ham rather than the pre-packaged crumbed chicken kievs.

‘Dinner tonight. Got to love a bargain. Marked as leg ham,’ she wrote and shared an image to the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group.

Louise was thrilled with the $6.74 saving of the 700g packet of poultry and encouraged others to keep a lookout for similar bargains when grocery shopping.

After sharing the image on social media, others dubbed the buy as a ‘good score’ and ‘bargain’.

‘I paid $4 and was excited about that,’ another added.

Earlier this month another mum managed to score a lamb roast for a mere 83c from Aldi for a similar reason. Customer Monique was excited to pick up the half leg of Killarnee lamb for dinner and said it had been weighed incorrectly

Earlier this month another mum managed to score a lamb roast for a mere 83c from Aldi for a similar reason.

Customer Monique was excited to pick up the half leg of Killarnee lamb for dinner and said it had been weighed incorrectly.

The Australian meat usually costs $11.99 per kilo but had been weighed at only 68g and had a ‘use by’ date of June 3.

‘I was soo excited about my bargain find today I knew you mums would appreciate it,’ she wrote and shared an image to the Aldi Mums Facebook group.

Monique said she asked the checkout employee whether to price was correct and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

‘This is my first ever find I even asked the guy at the checkout. I was like ‘so this is marked 83c does that mean I get it for 83c?” she said.

‘He went and spoke to the manager and they were like ‘Yeah we can’t charge you any more for it’.’

She added how she can’t wait for her husband to slow cook the lamb for dinner.

Best times to shop for markdown bargains

Australian supermarkets are discounting items progressively through the day, with 20, 40, 60, 80 and even 99 per cent slashed off the retail prices.

There are no set days for markdowns as products go out of date constantly – but bargain hunters say the best times to shop are either first thing in the morning or shortly before closing time.

Families are waiting for the right time to do their shop so they could save a fortune off their grocery bills – as stores slash prices off perishables in a bid to sell whatever they can before binning it or donating to charities.
